Panels are what turn a desk with a joystick on it into something that feels like a cockpit.
The reason is simple. Every switch you assign to a physical control is a menu you never have to open and a key combination you never have to remember. Flipping an actual landing light switch during a night approach keeps your eyes where they belong, which is outside.
The range runs from general to specific. Logitech’s Switch Panel, Radio Panel, Multi Panel and Instrument Panel cover the basics of a light aircraft and stack together into a reasonable stack. Above that sit aircraft-specific units. A WINGFLEX or MiYee A320 FCU replicates the Airbus flight control unit exactly, so speed, heading and altitude selection work the way they do in the real aeroplane. A 737 MCP does the same for the Boeing.
