Mounts & Cockpits

Good hardware clamped badly is worse than modest hardware mounted properly.
The problem is that flight sim gear is designed to clamp to a desk edge, and most desks were not designed to be clamped to. Thick tops, rounded fronts, drawer rails and cable trays all get in the way. A yoke that shifts under load ruins fine pitch control, and a joystick that walks across the desk during a dogfight is worse than no joystick.
Dedicated mounts fix the position and put the controls where your hands naturally fall, rather than where the desk happens to allow. Chair mounts move the stick beside your leg, which is where it sits in a real fighter, and free the desk entirely. Desk mounts extend past an awkward edge to give a clamp something square to grip.
Full cockpit frames are the next step up. A folding rig gives you a fixed seating position, proper mounting points for yoke, throttle and pedals, and it packs away when the room needs to be a room again. Next Level Racing’s foldable frames are sold for racing but mount flight gear without trouble, which is why so many home cockpits are built on them.
Measure your desk before you order anything with a clamp on it.
